Today's topic for the Knitting and Crochet Blog Week (Day 2 - 2kcbwday2)was "Skill and 1UP". The description was as follows:
"Look back over your last year of projects and compare where you are in terms of skill and knowledge of your craft to this time last year. Have you learned any new skills or forms of knitting/crochet? (...) Have you recently put a foot in the tiled world of entrelac? Had you even picked up a pair of needles or crochet hook this time last year?"
Frankly, the answer is: no. Since last March I haven't really learned any new major skill in the knitting world. I've done a few new, little things though, like the turned edges of the Coraline cardigan (yet to be blocked and blogged) or closing the Baby Bag with crochet.
I'm actually a bit surprised that there wasn't any more learning involved in the last year - but I don't mind though. I see it as a sign that I have used my knitting as a way to relax and produce useful items for people who like and need them, rather than a competition with someone else or even myself.
I believe that learning a skill is best learned when the need to learn it in the first place comes from a need to make something where that skill is required. So as I haven't had the need to crochet anything, I haven't learned it (yet!)
